About the Artist

As a 5th year art and art history student at the University of Toronto and Sheridan College, Sam Hill has been taking courses in studio art, curation, and art educational practices to diversify her portfolio within the Art field. In addition to developing studio art practices, the Specialist Art and Art History program gives her the exciting opportunity to gain experience with working in a collaborative team to curate a graduating art show, be in charge of organizing and running social engagement programs, operate an online student exhibition on social media, engage with contemporary artists and participate in teaching practicums at museums and galleries to learn real-world educational techniques

Although her specialty lies in painting and drawing, she has learned how to create art through multiple mediums including but not limited to print media, digital and film photography, video editing, graphic design, pottery, and sculpture through her unique University program.

Her conceptual approach to painting vastly differs from her abilities as an illustrator and crafter with concepts linking within a queer, feminist framework, in addition to exploring the correlations found within mental health, physical health, and femininity. These ideas often contrast to the cartoonish nature of her illustrations and sculptures which she has developed in response to her work with children in art education.
When she is not making art for school, Sam loves to experiment with several different craft projects such as making jewellery, masks, costumes, home decor and creating comics for fun. In addition to studying studio art, she has also taken courses on Art education, Education in the school and community, along with a number of art history courses that have given Sam the knowledge that she likes to weave into her artistic practices.
